2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe

Full Size Luxury - Coupe

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe
With a final score of 64%, the new E-Class Coupe is on its way back into our garages.  Of course that would be our wives side of the garage, since this car seems to appeal more to female buyers then male.  With a quick trip to the plastic surgeon for a nose job and some body sculpting, the E-Class then would
have been ready for a runway shoot.  Too bad that it still needs some work, since BMW and Audi already have comparable cars which rate better.

It seems that every couple of years Mercedes makes a complete change to their lineup.  Well for 2014 it seems that the big cars are the ones getting the overhaul.  Too bad they forgot that they should leave their old school ways behind.  The 2014 E-Class Coupe is a decent looking luxury coupe with a bit of attitude.  Too bad all of its attitude resides in the front fascia.  If Mercedes would have taken this car seriously, they would have made it an over the top segment leader.  Instead they dumped the same old basic styling back onto their standard large coupe.  Next time Mercedes should inject a bit more of the SLR into the design language of their coupes.  Then they might have a chance playing with others.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe rear
Front End: C+
Good: Race inspired front air ducts and spoiler not from AMG
Bad: Drop the hood to get rid of the truck look
Rear End: B-
Good: Race inspired exhaust and rear ducts not from AMG
Bad: In need of an actual spoiler or a stiff upper lip
Side: B
Good: Aftermarket inspired mirrors give that custom appeal
Bad: Bland and overdone wheel design
Overall Appeal: B-
Good: Still a fast looking piece of steel
Bad: A cheap looking antenna and too many female lines

OVERALL GRADE = B-
