2015 Acura RLX

Full Size Premium - Sedan

Acura RLX
With a final score of 60%, the new RLX is a step up for Acura, even if it is just a Honda in a tuxedo.  Someone needs to let Honda know that they really need to step up their game if they want to be a tier one luxury company.  Maybe next time they will push Acura into the big leagues.
For 2015 Acura has somewhat improved their lineup with the introduction of the new RLX and TLX.  Yes they may be just revamped European Honda's for the North American and Chinese markets, but they are a well a step up from the standard Honda.  And that is where the main problem with Acura still lies.  Once they figure out that they need to move their brand further up the luxury ladder, the better the product will be.  It seems that Honda still has the belief that people will still purchase a Honda with leather and more features.  Well if I wanted that, I would have checked all of the boxes on my Accord.  Its time Honda wakes up from this long late 80's luxury coma and comes to realize the world of luxury has changed.

Up front the new RLX is a bit better, but besides the extra chrome and a few hard lines, it is still a bland and boring front.  Out back is not different with a hide away bumper and enough chrome to put an Escalade to shame.  But when you add in the Alien lights, the rear goes from good to bad.

Overall the new RLX is a step from the last one, of course the same can be said about the new Accord as well.  When you compare it to the sport appealing RL from the early 2000's, you start to see where Honda has lost some of its edge in the luxury market.

OVERALL GRADE = B-

Front End: C+
Good: Hard lines and great use of chrome features
Bad:  All too many crop circles on the headlights
Rear End: B-
Good: One smooth as a babies bottom rear end
Bad: Alien eye tail lights could have been toned down
Side: C+
Good: Smooth body lines and well proportioned curves
Bad: News flash, the 90's want their rims back
Overall Appeal: B-
Good: Still one sexy black tie Honda
Bad: Still appeals to that sexy black tie Honda crowd
