Mid-Size Coupe - CUV Well if you thought the Coupe CUV market was going to stay quiet on the standard side, then I guess you're wrong now. Sure the Luxury market has been having fun with the coupe versions, so I guess now it's time for the standard market to jump on in. Odd that it took this long as within a year of the Saloon market heating up VW released the CC. But I guess everyone thought this was just going to be a phase. Now who would have thought that Mazda would be the first to enter this market as they are always so humble. But I guess when you help create the sport CUV market with the original CX-7, then it's a no brainer that you would start the coupe craze. And what a better way to launch your new coupe model, then using the Chinese market and the already stunning CX-9 as your platform. Up front the new CX-4 is pretty much the same old Mazda front with its V-grille, sleek lights and smooth hood. Moving towards the rear the side is still pretty much the same with the smooth lines, cheap plastic and chrome laced windows. Out back is where the fun really begins. Out back you will find a sleek coupe window, smooth rear bumper and some exotic alien rear safety lights. Sure the exhaust needs a lot of work with some integration, but that could be upgraded easily. Guess no one thought that we would check the lower end of the rear. Of course we would, as it is our job. Next time we hope that Mazda will make sure that the rotary style exhaust ports are visible and that the rear bumper has some hard edges. Besides that the all new CX-4 is sure to be a winner in the coupe world. Everett J. OVERALL SCORE: B+
