Cadillac is looking to make a name for itself in the new world of electric vehicles.  Following up the Lyriq ALV comes the Caddy's new luxury saloon, the Celestiq.  Borrowing aspects from Eldorado's from the past, this new entry into the EV world seems to be a great start.

Up front the new Celestiq may seem like a welcome change from the grilles of their ICE products, but it seems that Cadillac forgot that gloss plastic does come off as cheap.  And over time, the front end of this car will really start to show its age.  They do give the appearance that their standard grille is still there, but only
1977 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
in an accented layout.  The break within the chrome accents, gives us the illusion that there maybe a hint of old school ICE in there.   Add to that a use of aluminum style accents and you have the makings of a decent foray into the world of EV sedans.

While you move along the side of this monster of a luxury car, you will start to notice that there is no mid-profile line.  this would help better break the upper and lower portions of this design, where as the windows seem to sit out of order on the top end of this car.  Add to that the fact that there is a lack of any true accents and you have a two world side design.   The only great illusion which Cadillac gives us, is that it does seem like there is a brake cooling duct sitting along the skirt line.  Again this is just an illusion, similar to that of Volkswagens fake exhaust ports.

Out back Cadillac has done a wonderful job adding on its lighting fixtures.  These new age illuminated plastic panels help give us a better feel that this is a product for the 21st century.  One thing Cadillac could do better next time around, is better integrate their bumper into the rear.  A pouty lip may look great on a supermodel, but on an automotive model, it just looks out of place.  Our only other quarrel, is that this design could use a better rear diffuser, but maybe that will come when they fix that lip.

All around the this new entry into the world of luxury saloons is a great fit and for Cadillac to bring back its 1970's image, was a great idea.  Let's hope they make a few changes for the mid-cycle refresh and maybe next time this model will hit the top of the design list.
