compact - hatch
With the hatchback market becoming ever more popular every year it was no question that Kia would introduce a car into this market utilizing one of its best-known models. Expanding the Spectra to include a five-door hatch was the best answer Kia could have come up with to help fend off the every growing hatch market. With little changes to the actual Spectra model, the competition may already know how to fend off the Spectra but maybe Kia has some aces up their sleeve. The Spectra’s already sleek look has made it very easy for Kia to turn this little sedan to include a hatchback model. Starting from the bottom Kia has added a great looking skirt kit to give the Spectra5 that added sport appeal which some of its competitor’s poses. Up form the skirt kit is a great looking front air duct, which flows evenly form one end of the car to the other and adds a sport lip to the bottom of the Spectra5.
A large front grille positions itself nicely in the centre of the front of the Spectra5. Although the grille is nicely positioned in the centre of the front it does have an odd outer chamfer around the actual grille which creates the illusion that the manufacturer forgot to cut away all of the grille housing. Vicious looking headlamps help give the front of the Spectra5 an aggressive look. Another aggressive look on the front end is how the hood tapers downward to the bodyline, which flows up, from the edge of the headlamps. Onto the side of the car where a nicely featured bodyline flows from the front wheel wells to the corner of the rear lights. One area on the side where Kia didn’t seem to spend a lot of time was on their wheel design; these wheels are very boring and have no sport appeal to them at all.
At the rear of the car is where you find the nicely featured rear wing, which helps to create some shade for the storage area of the car. Considering Kia’s rather exciting front lights, the rear of the car features a simple and yet conventional set of lights, which do add bit of look to the rear of this little hatch. Although Kia has not been in North America for long, they have certainly shown the North American market that they’re no just another auto manufacturer, there the next great auto manufacturer.
