2014 AutoLooks Best and Worst Designs
2013 Year End Review
Yes 2013 has been the year of a few big things and few pinnacle moments. But 2013 can also be remembered as the year that the auto industry came back to life. With a return to stability in Europe, to the turn around of the industry in the U.S., the auto industry as a whole has made its way back to a normal running year. The only downside to 2013, was that the Chinese market is slowing down with some cities putting caps on the amount of cars which can be registered. This may put a damper on the industry there, of course that may force some Chinese automakers to start really considering improving their quality so that they can move their product into more markets.
One of the biggest news makers of the 2013 had to have been the fall of Fisker automotive. With this fall, everyone started to realize that maybe the electric car industry maybe to young for some companies to play in. This unstable birth stage will set the market for years to come, and if you cannot get a stranglehold on enough market share, you may wind up dead. That was the case for both Fisker and Coda who could not make enough market share to keep themselves profitable. Of course you cannot say that about Tesla, since it has a good financial backing and a great growth platform.
Next to a few deaths, we did celebrate some good times in 2013 since it was a few companies and cars birthdays. In 2013 we saw the Corvette turn 60, the 911 turn 50, Aston Martin ring in their 100th, and Buick, Vauxhall and Ford all celebrate their 110th. Of course if you did not know one famous vehicle celebrated the same birthday as myself and rang in their 30th in 2013. The Dodge Caravan saw its 30th birthday pass by without and celebration at all, too bad, since this is one vehicle that still holds a large portion of their market.
We all hope that 2014 will hold as many great things as 2013 did as we all know that the Mustang does turn 50 this year. And we all hope that the rumours are true that TVR will make a return in 2014.
All the best in 2014

AutoLooks 10 Best 2014 Designs
Yes we know everyone has been waiting for the list of our 10 best designs for 2014. And no not everyone will agree with some of the winners, but when it comes done to all of the aspects of what makes a car great, you may just understand.
For 2014 our top rated model and a car that will put the auto industry into a new direction, is the 2014 BMW i8. Yes you may say it is one odd looking car, but when you stop and compare it to everything else out there, it is the only car that looks like it is from the future, not the past. The 2014 BMW i8 is one of the only cars out there that looks like it was designed to look into the future. With its only feature from the past being a similarity to the BMW M1 of the 70's. Another car that looked into the future and even today looks like something that could run with all of the other supercars. Yes the i8 is a hybrid exotic that takes everything to the next level, but maybe that is what the auto industry needs right now. We have seen a major slump in auto designs over the past 25 years, with some cars today looking right at home in the 90's. If you want to see for yourself take a look at an 89 Caravan next to a 2013. They look like they are only 5 years apart. The true winners for best designs cannot be made on what is the coolest looking of the time, but what is made of the most forward looking aspects The i8 shows us where we are going not where we came from. |

2014 AutoLooks 10 Worst Designs
Well if you thought that a year end review would be finished with only a 10 best list, then you need to reconsider. Yes AutoLooks is not only letting you know who the best is, but who is the worst and which ones you should avoid. We have some of the worst models on the planet which someone thought you would purchase. The dumb thing is that people actually purchase them. Well lets make sure that those companies are aware of their dumb ideas and hopefully they will learn from their mistakes.
For 2014 our choice was not the oddest looking, or the car with littlest amount of features. No our award went to a car that had the smallest amount of attitude and had barely any attention to detail. It was one of those models made to fit a slot in the marketplace and we wish they would not have filled it. Yes the AutoLooks 2014 worst design would have to go to the 2014 Suzuki Spacia. A car that shows no sign of life at all. Even adding on some custom parts would still make this car look as dull as it is. Now add in the fact that the Spacia is at home in 1980's, 1990's and 2000's. Sure it could be cool to stretch you design across three decades, like the beetle, but at least make it something known to be cool across three decades. |

Our worst design is based off of a design which shows a lack of actual input being put into the design. Sure some of the models on the worst list are ugly, but they still serve their purpose. The only purpose of the Spacia is to move a few people from point A to point B, and that is it. It is not made to be an aftermarket workshop or even a racers drear. Just made to move people around. That may have been the idea of cars 100 years ago, but today, you have to make a model appeal to at least two markets.
For 2014 we hope that Suzuki will realize that your car needs to have a soul, and not just be a hunk of metal with an engine.
