mid-size luxury - suv

Land Rover LR3
From the company who’s famous for making boxy SUV’s, its no surprise that the Discovery’s replacement would become more of a box than its predecessor.  With its rather simple and bland look this new Land Rover is unlike the other Land Rover models, because this new SUV really is a box on wheels, rather than a spherical box on wheels.
Land Rover’s new front headlamp look is well featured on the front of this new model, adding a little bit of luxury to the front of this box on wheels.  The new headlamp look from Land Rover is something to get use to, since it features a break away daytime running light which adds to a less boxy looking style of headlamp configuration.  A refurbished front grille has added to the signature looking front end and made this Discovery replacement more of a Land Rover rather than just some SUV.  The front grille is followed nicely onto the front bumper where a new front air vent has been added to cool the big Land Rover engine off.  One bad look for the front of the LR3 is the plastic surrounding the fog lamps, it is good for reducing the visibility of scratches form weekend excursions but gives off a cheap look to the front end of what is supposed to be something that is luxurious.  The large plastic wheel wells have been added to this box and really should have been a bit bigger and colour matched to fit more with the look of the LR3.  Simple and boring wheels have been added to the LR3 and from a luxury stand point, Land Rover should have gone with a better looking material or a better looking wheel design to make this luxury SUV look more luxurious.  Even thought the LR3 is just a box on wheels the side windows come off perfectly matched to the rest of the LR3’s design.
As with its predecessor the LR3 features a large rear window on the side which goes up and just a bit over the top for more visibility while backing up and turning, and also adds to the look of the LR3 in a good way.  One disappointing move from Land Rover is that they have decided not to add a roof rack to the design of the LR3, which takes away from the versatility of a Land Rover.  Like its predecessor the LR3 comes with an oddly shaped rear window, which is, designed perfect to house the holding area of the spare tire, and to make it more convenient to get to the spare tire.  The rest of the rear of the LR3 is designed well except the very large tail lamps.  One way Land Rover should compensate for the large rear lights is a crystal area around the rear backup lights to add a more luxurious look.  Altogether the new Land Rover LR3 is one well-crafted box, which may make it in the ever-changing luxury SUV market, if Land Rover can position it well.
