mid-size - sedan

Nissan Altima
Sure we can all say that the all new Nissan Altima is a step in the right direction, but that step does come with a major flaw.  Guess no one at Nissan caught the cheap slapstick floating roof at the rear.  Seems that someone forgot to add that extra piece of chrome to break up the floating roof design from the rest of the vehicle.  This lost feature makes the whole side profile of the new Altima seem rather cheap.
Just like the new Maxima the all new Altima was headed in the right direction with its hard edges, broken lights and famous V-grille, but that rear floating roof throws it all out.  If you take a good long look at this one, you can really tell that it's just painted.  Well we all know that all floating roofs are just painted metal with a little bit of chrome accents, but on the new Altima this is completely lost.  And it seems that no one along the entire process of creating this car even noticed this poor design aspect.  Sure the average consumer may not pick up on this, but once they stop and look at the rear roof rail, they will notice that this is just painted metal.  Seems like someone just threw some black paint on the back rail at the last minute.  Almost like it was a last minute attempt to follow the direction of the rest of the lineup.

Had Nissan followed suit with its top designs it would have looked a lot better.  All they really had to do was follow the chrome accent from under the window to truck lid.  Had they have done that, this design would look more compete and all of it would have flowed perfectly.  Too bad their designers need to get their eyes checked as we all have to look at this now.

We have added the Maxima and Murano below if you would like compare how the floating roof from both of those models.  If you take a look at their floating roof you will notice how it all blends together and that the roof really looks like it is floating.  This is a great optical illusion when it is done right.  But unfortunately it wasn't done right on the all new Altima.   Well let's hope that Nissan can fix this up when they do the refresh in 3 years.  But in the meantime we will just have to suffer with this unfinished design.
