2024 INDI One - Design Review
along with cruising ability. Unlike the competition, the One has a low overall appeal, added with a touch of aftermarket with the use of larger wheels. This gives the One, one great overall appeal. This is all good when you look the car as a whole, but when you start to really look over the One, you may start to notice some design flaws. Up front you can really notice how Indi wanted to bring in some sport appeal. An oversized lower splitter wing along with a wrap-around headlamp, really tries to add into the overall appeal. But a lack of a proper front intake, brings down the appeal. Side gills are the only intake up front and they are lackluster in their overall appearance. A true lower intake or a patterned accent where the intake would be, would really help to improve the front-end appeal. A bit higher up, Indi, seems to have forgotten to add on some character features to the hood line. Without any added appearance, the hood seems to float in space, as it protrudes above the front end. This alternate universe is split by the wrap around head lights, which sit at the lower end of this universe’s spectrum. Some blending and possibly an actual accent grille, could have helped the front move away from its dual time zones. Add on the vast expanse of nothingness and space in this universe is truly visible to the naked eye. One area where the dual universes merges together is along the side, as the windows blend down onto the side body profile. Unfortunately, this is again lost when you hit the rear of the side windows, as the separate universe appears again. Indi has done a decent job in outlining their side window to match the profile of the roofline. They could have at least integrated the side mirrors into this profile along with cascading the rear window line up. The best feature is very prominent here, as the wheels over imply both the sport and cruising appeal this model goes for. Flat aluminum material is fitting with most of the bright colours, but they tend to blend in and get lost the darker you go. A paint accent could help with this, or just an update to the rim style. We do love the rim choice, as it does create a proper cruiser look, with its wide stance and large appeal. Out back all the sport appeal disappears as we say hello to the bland and boring. The long sweeping roofline moves well into the rear, but with a rear which sits to high, the rear window becomes too small to make a good appearance. Moving the rear lights down, would help with the viewing space and clean up the dual time zone of the rear. Hitting the lights is where most of you are looking now, as this space is the main focal point of the rear. With a layout which blends both the rear spoiler into the tail light layout, is a good approach, but could have been done a bit better. A better flow could help this area out, as it does break from the bland space which resides below it. Lower you find a layout which is almost the same as the front. A blank space with a dark accent used to break up the look of the rear is a good approach, but was not done properly. Integrated some side gills and a proper rear diffuser could help make the rear blend in better with the overall appeal of this product. Add to that a window spoiler at the top, the One could be the one you choose when purchasing an entry level EV. Overall INDI, has done a decent job in its initial layout for their first product. As we have pointed out, the One does have some great starting points, but could use some updates to bring it to the level of true sport cruiser. Maybe next time this one will be the one we all want.
