It was only a matter of time before Lotus jumped into the ALV marketplace.  As their new parent owners, Geely wants to turn this sports car manufacture into a profitable engine for the company.  This means going head-to-head with the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini.  And with ladder having a product profile in more than just sports cars, this could be the right avenue for Lotus to go down.

Porsche not only has the 911 and 718, but since the arrival of the Cayenne and Macan, their profit margins have gone off the charts.  This is not hard to ignore, as Geely wants their new sports car brand to
turn a profit while making a new name for themselves.

The Eletre is the evolution which Geely has planned for this company to take.  And with the arrival of the Emira and Evija halo car, they are on their way back to becoming a prized sports car manufacture.  Let's just hope that this new product won't diminish their image too much, but how much more destruction can Lotus endure.

2010 Lotus City Car concept
2010 Lotus Eterne concept
Up front the Eletre shows the world, that its not your standard ALV product.  This is a product which means business, as Lotus has included hood exhaust ports to allow for more airflow across the front end.  This is something which a lot of EV's don't incorporate into their design, as they believe they don't need more air over an engine bay.

Eletre front
Lotus has done a wonderful job in creating an aggressive face for their ALV, but they could have gone with showing a bit less teeth.  With an oversized intake and grille replacement, the front ends aggressive face could have been toned down a bit.  Over shadowing everything else up front, this over use of a carbon fiber and plastic is a bit too much to handle.  Breaking up this space with an accent line could help tone down the look and give this product a more sleek and aggressive appeal.

We are not happy to say that Lotus could have used a bit more attention on their front air splitter.  A lack of a true central splitter added with an oversized side one, gives this front a lack of added downforce.  Sure, you may not need that much, but with this being a sports car manufacture, they could have put emphasis on keeping with their automotive culture.

Eletre side
Along the side, Lotus has done a wonderful job with the addition of many character features.  Not adding too much character, gives this product both a sleek and hardened image.  And with the addition of perfectly styled wheels, this could be one of the more properly laid out side profiles within this marketplace.

This is not to say that its side profile is without faults, as the overuse of plastic on the side sills, gives the illusion of a more basic appeal.  Utilizing more plastic on a premium model brings down the overall image and could be seen as more of a standard product.  Bringing down this usage or adding on an accent line, could help move your vision away from this over used material.

Eletre rear
Out back is where you will find a new age rear spoiler which takes this product into the future of the automotive world.  Adding on a speed regulated lip spoiler, the rear of this vehicle has been made to handle the movement of airflow perfectly.

But unlike the rest of the vehicle, out back is where Lotus really lost its game.  With a rear which overhangs a bit too much and again an overuse of plastic cladding, this rear is far from being perfect.  The use of a thin rear light fixture is a great idea, but not when its over shadowed by an oversized rear lip and gills.  Increasing the size of the lights or adding in some character lines, could help break up the bland area on the rear and hopefully make this rear a bit less of an over hanging fruit.

1965 Ford Cortina Lotus MK1 Estate Custom
1989 Lotus Carlton Omega
2012 Proton Satria Neo R3 Lotus Racing Edition
All around this all-new product will help reinvigorate some much-needed profits, back into this once great company.  Adding to the fact that this is not Lotus's first time playing in the suburban field, this product has truly shown that it can play with the rest of the class.  Let's just hope that the Eletre is not a one pony show and that we can look forward to a prosperous future with the Lotus brand.
