MG has come a long way since their revival back in 2006 and nothing would be more fitting than returning to its roots.  With only high production models in its stable now, SAIC group wants to return MG back to where they began.  Now with the rise if the EV world, it just seems fitting that the all new roadster would enter the world with an electric powertrain.  This means they stepping foot into the roadster market with a power source which has yet to be used.  This makes MG the owner of their marketplace.  Now all we can do is sit back and wait for their rivals to catch up.  EV Miata anyone.

MG has moved itself away from the basic roadsters of its past with the Cyberster, but has it done enough to justify its existence?
2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante
2018 Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Cabrio
Up front this little roadster makes a menacing statement about its existence.  Side splitters with body colour accents help to showcase the sport appeal of this little car and how it will grip the road.  This is attached to its lower lip which could have used a mild increase in the size of its intakes.  Extending the size of the front intakes halfway up the blank space above it, would help make the front stand out more.  It is nice that this car smiles at your, but let’s give it a nose job.
Cyberster front
Character lines with well defined edges are highly used on the front of the Cyberster.  This helps the little roadster stand out in a big way.  Not blending into the sleek lines of the market, this product has chosen to make a statement up front.  Too bad the headlight design and gills do not follow this language.  Sleeker thin line lights cut down from its existing size, would give this front an evil stare.  This would be complimented with a pair of intake gills which were a bit larger.

Extension of the fronts breathing power, is what the Cyberster is lacking and once these changes are made, this little roadster will be a menace to play with.

Running down the side of this product you may be taken aback by its usage of fellow British profiles.  High usage of the Jaguar F-Types side profile gives the Cyberster its copy-cat award.  Add to this a few hard character lines and you start to see a bit of Aston as well.  Besides the borrowed profile, MG has done a wonderful job at incorporating a well-defined side seal and splitter. The red accent line is carried over from the front and could be changed over to a darker or grey material to help take away from the cheap image it portrays.  But with a larger-than-life rear splitter all is forgiven at the rear, as the wind breaks away from your drive.
MG Cyberster side
One of the interesting features out here, is the dual time zones created by the accent used around the window.  The dark material used has not breaking line besides the crease.  Without an extra accent here, the top of the vehicle appears to be separate from the rest of the car.  Better blending is required to ensure these two areas meet up properly.  And with the chrome accent on the rims, this would help with a complete blend of the side profile.

Out back you will notice how the black accent which put the top into a different universe, wraps around creating an island of red.  This island would be where you top would drop into, but like the side, this could have been better integrated with a definition line.

This island also contains the stranded logo as well.  Being a bit oversized and out of place, MG should work on putting this logo in a better location during their mid-cycle refresh.  The name logos could be decreased in size as well, as they do look a bit oversized for their location.
Cyberster Rear
Pointing to each side, you will find yourself staring at arrow profile lights, which makes us wonder if MG wanted to ensure drivers behind you know which direction you are drifting towards.  These are accented with a thin lined running brake light. Like other parts this running light could use some better accents, or just remove it and make it 3D.

A bit lower you find yourself staring at the best part of the rear, the diffuser.  Well sized and accented with the continuous splitter from the front, the Diffuser blends in with the rear as a well-proportioned accessory.  Helping air move out and away from the rear, both the diffuser and splitter will be required for back road adventures.  And to boot, the plate location works with the rear as it blends in with the rear diffuser. The same can be said about the reflectors, which seem to disappear onto the sides of the rear cladding.

Overall, the Cyberster is a well proportioned and laid out product.  Utilizing a profile from fellow counterparts, could work to its benefit, as MG sets out to reclaim their glory days of being the roadster king of the world.  Let us just hope that hey use some of our hints during the refresh stage, so that the update will take and A+ award.  This would make this little roadster the true king of the marketplace.
