AUTOLOOKS 2013 10 BEST LIST It has been awhile since we have rounded out the year, but for 2013 we are making some changes. This year we are bringing you the 10 best new designs for 2013. And if you are wondering if we put something from every segment into this list, we did not. Yes we all know that sports cars are the best looking cars out there, but sometimes there are those odd sedans and trucks, which can look great as well. For this year we took a look at what people would want in a vehicle based firstly on its looks, then on its usability. Then you have to ask, who would buy this, and for what purpose. We all know why people purchase a Minivan, they have a family and need something big. But why do they purchase a Dodge or Toyota Minivan. That is another question you have to ask yourself.
Lamborghini Aventador A true world class leader in design and style. That is all you can ever say about Lamborghini. Since the release of the Miura back in the 60’s, Lamborghini has been paving the way for best looking supercars in the world. And with hits like the Countach, Miura, Diablo and Sesto Elemento under their belt, it was no wonder that the new Aventador would become an A+ awards winner. Our best rated car of the year, becomes the standard which most should follow. The only real downside to this car is the fact that its outline has become dated, since it still resembles a Diablo. SRT Viper Yes we all know this as being a Dodge, but with Fiat in charge now, Dodge no longer has sports cars. For 2013 it seems that the Viper will wear the SRT badge. This may not be a bad thing, since now that it is no longer a Dodge, it will not have that image of being GT trap amongst sedans and minivans. It seems like it took forever for the Viper to return, but when you have to wait for something this good, it’s worth it. The new Viper is not a change on the 2nd generation, it is a change on the 1st generation. We can only say this, because its lines resemble more a snake then a car, just like the first Viper did. This is one of the best features of the Viper, since the original designer of the original snake did not design a car. He designed a car around the head of a snake. This approach was also used on the Copperhead concept which Dodge never released. But when you can make a deadly snake into a car, then you are sure to become a winner in the AutoLooks books. Ford Fusion / Mondeo You may think that this is just a change of an existing model. That it may be, but really it is a change on everything that was bad. The new Fusion/Mondeo model is one great looking mid-size sedan, estate and hatchback. It has everything you want in a mid-size and then they added on a bit more. With a shape of its own and a mean looking front, it was no wonder why this made our list. And add in the fact that it hits every segment of the family needs list. Then the new Fusion/Mondeo is the perfect family car. Now it’s great to see that Ford is seeing the light at the end of the design tunnel. Now if they can only do the same for their full sized trucks. Dodge Dart When you want to bring the party to the game, then let the Italians help. That is what Chrysler did with the replacement for the forgotten Neon. If you want to change the game of compact sedans, then you need to make a big splash. And to do that you need a great looking car. Dodge has done that with the new Dart. Sure the name is borrowed from the past, but most of its styling is from today. The worst part about this car is the re-used Charger tail lights. If they had gone with something of their own, maybe this would be an A+ award winner. Porsche Cayman Now into its third generation, the Cayman has made up even more ground. From its humble beginnings as a bubble top Boxster, to becoming a true player in the small GT market, the Cayman sure has come along way. Now considered a true GT fighter, the Cayman has become one of our favourite GT cars on the market. And when you add in that this is just a 2.7L H6 mid-engine car, you start to see the real fun side of this Porsche. Although it comes from a company which has tarnished its sports car image with an SUV and Sedan, the new Cayman is still seen as one the best little track cars out there. And compared to its rivals from Audi and Lotus, the Porsche still has the luxury features you want for an everyday driver. Conquest Evade Its big, it’s powerful, and it’s from Canada. Yes that is right, this big brute is a Canadian made all terrain vehicle. It didn’t make our list because it is from Canada, it made the list due to the fact that if you want to go anywhere, this is the SUV for you. Although it may not be the best looking or best priced, it is the best at what it does. From features like bomb proof panels, to a 32” flat screen in the back, the Evade is a slight upgrade from the previous model. Its only downside, is the fact that it is a limited model with a steep price tag. But if you can afford this, then it is the right vehicle for the job. Lotus Exige S It may not be the Esprit everyone was looking for, but the updated Exige S is sure to be a hit for Lotus. Well that’s what Lotus is hoping for. For a company with so many financial problems, it’s hard to notice when you see how great their product line is. With the wait still on for an Esprit replacement and grim outlook for its future, Lotus still comes to amaze us both on its design and usability. If you in the market for a great looking city runabout which you can take to the track on weekends, Lotus has the car for you. The only issue with being the perfect track car is that you give up modern luxuries that most people need. But for a true racer, a Lotus is the best car money can buy. And it helps that the Exige S is cheaper than most of its competitors. Opel/Vauxhall Adam When you want to take the smallest market by storm, then you best bring your A game right from the start. It seems that Opel is looking into the future of small cars and has seen the light that most haven’t. Customizable micro car is what you would have to call the Adam. With more features, wheel designs and colour choices than most in the segment, the Adam is sure to win the hearts of many. With so many choices out there for micro cars (outside of North America), you have to wonder why anyone would want to enter this market. Well if you see how crowded the rest of the world is, you might see that your full sized pickup would be a nightmare to drive in Europe or Asia. The Adam wins our hearts with its ability to be a fully custom car where the one you own can be completely different than your neighbours. And on top of that, its sporty appeal is another cool feature. Holden Colorado It may be on its way to becoming the best looking worldwide truck of this decade. We only will claim it as that when it finally comes to North America and replaces that dull looking Colorado we have. It may not have beat out the Ram as being the best looking truck out there, but the new Colorado sure has got it going on. Utilizing great lines up front and out back, this changed truck is sure to become a hit where ever it goes. And when you consider that it meets all of the demands of being both, a work and play truck, then you have to think, this is for everyone. I guess the new Mazda BT-50 and Ford Ranger have something to look out for. Tesla Model S It may not be one the best looking sedans we have ever seen, but when you consider that it gets over 300miles on a single charge (if you opt for the top of the line model) you can see why it made the list. Add to this the fact that you can run the car for less money a month than its petrol counterparts, and you got the makings of near perfect sedan. The only downside to this model, is that to get the 300mile range you have to shell out over $100,000, making this sedan fall into the ranks of the luxury car market. They may not seem like a lot, but really the AutoLooks 10 best is what the world of cars really needs. If companies like Chevrolet, Honda and Peugeot used designs like this, maybe the world would be a better designed place. Everett J. #AutoLooks
