2014 bMW 2-Series

Compact luxury - Coupe

BMW 2-Series
With a final score of 46%, the 2-Series is sure to be one BMW model to stay away from.  If BMW really wanted to go for more market share, they should have differentiated the 1-Series from the 2-Series, not just make it bigger.

It seems that every year BMW wants to add some new model or segment to its lineup.  Too bad this time they decided to breed to of its models to make a new one.  When you really stop and take a look at the new 2-Series you start to realize all this car is, is a 3-Series front end on a 1-Series coupe.  The two have created a decent looking offspring, but maybe BMW should have gone with something other than a new coupe.  When you consider that the 5 and  7 series are the only models in their lineup with a coupe model, its hard to see why you would need another.

Up front there are some nice touches when it comes to the flow of the headlights from the grille to the body line.  Next to that the lower air ducts are the only other good feature up front.  The hood is all too flat and is in need of some uplifting spirits.  It you raise its height you might take more notice this as a coupe rather than a short sedan.
Out back it seems that BMW forgot to take some of that fat out of the bumper of both the 1 and 3-Series.  Reducing the simple lines and adding in some dark edges or hard lines, you might be able to see this as more than a basic coupe.  Next BMW made the worst mistake car makers are still making, they forgot to make the exhaust part of the rear, not an extra piece of it.

Overall the new 2-Series may see some new homes in its future, but when you consider that its main market of buyers would either be from the high 1-Series or low 3-Series, you may ask why.  The answer to that question, is because BMW can.  Lets just hope that a full blow M model makes this more distinguishable from its parents.
