Hatch - Cross-Trek Back in the 90's grunge music was big and long hair was nearing the end of its trend. Along with this the Volkswagen Gol launched its new design format. Of course this was a change from the box style from the 80's. For the next 25 years Volkswagen will milk this design for everything it can. Fast forward to 2014 when VW releases its updated version of the Gol. It is a slight change over the previous, but still a far cry from what it could be. It seems that the only new part of the Gol is the front end. Borrowed from the Golf, the new front end of the Gol could be the one thing that saves this model from being out to pasture. Of course this would be true from any other company, but we are talking about the manufacturer of the Beetle and Microbus/Kombi. The new front is a good change but the rest is still a mess. Out back, the Gol is all the same as before. Low hanging plate, large bumpers and all too short lights. Maybe next time VW should extend the lights up, flatten out the hatch and smooth out the bumper. This could help save the Gol, but if not taken care of soon, it may not come soon enough. It is time for Volkswagen to stop living in the past and send some of its models out to pasture to die. The Gol could be one of these models. Everett J.
