Hypercar - High Performance (copycat)
With a final score of 71.53%, the all new MC20 is a step in the right direction for Maserati, but is it enough. Not really, as this all new model screams about the past and borrows from the competition. If you haven't seen it already then get ready to find out about this products past as this model is a modern recreation of the MC12 and Birdcage concept from the past. The MC20 borrows elements from both of these models and gives new live to something that was great from its past. But this recreation may not be all that great when most of the new elements are borrowed from everyone else in Modena. From front to rear this apparently all new design is something to reconsider. Sure, Maserati did give it some of its own image with its oversized front grille and rectangular lights, but the overall profile is very similar to that of the competition. Borrowing heavily from both the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and Pininfarina Battista, the MC20 can be mistaken as either one from a far. Besides the blatant copycat profile, the MC20 does have a few good touches about it. It did manage to hold its own and claim a B+ as the wheels, lip spoilers and most intakes are better than the competition. Rim design is way over the top which helps put this model ahead of the competition. Add to this some perfectly placed and laid out air intake and exhaust ports and you have the makings of decent product with a bit of its own image. All around the all new MC20 really isn't all that bad, at least once you get past the overused profile. Maybe next time Maserati will chose to utilize a design house which is not used by the competition, in the hopes that their halo car will be more distinguished from the competition. Everett J.
