2012 Rusty Awards

3/18/2021

And the 2012 Rusty Award goes to........

2012 Rusty Awards
2012 had a massive jump in the amount of Rusty Awards handed out.  Compared to 2011's thirty-five (35) Rusty Awards, 2012 looked as if it blew up.  With sixty-one (61) Rusty Awards handed out, 2012 was a step in the wrong direction for automotive design.  Let's just hope that 2013 is better.

2012 saw the introduction of one the worst designs of the past, try to redeem itself with a makeover.  Unfortunately the rest of the marketplace is moving up the design latter and for 2012 the new Nissan Versa still came in short.  Although the design has improved upon itself from the last generation, the 2012 Nissan Versa still had a long way to go to be top of its class in the sub-compact segment.

Corporate: Nissan

As usual the bottom end of our list was still mostly made up of hatchbacks, vans and alternative fuel vehicles.  It seems that these marketplaces are improving, as their marks are moving in an upward trend.  But with an average score of nearly 39%, the bottom of our list is not improving enough.

2012 CopyCat Awards

With the addition of the Aftermarket and Sports-GT segments for 2012, it seems that not everyone is getting the point about improving their designs.  Guess, we will just have to see what 2013 has in store for us,

Everett J.

    About

AutoLooks "RATED" is where we rate and review vehicles from around the world from every segment of the automotive industry.  Our 1,215 point system is based on Four (4) key areas of automotive design.
AutoLooks rates the Front End, Rear End, Side and Overall Appeal of each and every new vehicle from around the world.
If they rate above 75%, they receive our
    A+ AWARD for design excellence.
If our rating system turns up a score below 45%, then that model will receive our RUSTY AWARD of design failure.
And don't think of borrowing to many design features from another company, or you will wind up taking home our COPYCAT AWARD.  This award outlines which model they are borrowing from and how close they are to the original
At the end of each year, AutoLooks puts together all of the their information into one easy to read article which outlines the best, worst, lost and new products from each year.
So join us on our journey of automotive criticism and take a look on our RATED pages to see how well each company, segment and model fair against their rivals.
