2024 Copycat Award Winners

"Not all snowflakes are the same, but yours is too close to another."
AutoLooks CopyCat Awards
Not all copycats look exactly like the model they are copying.  Some utilize key aspects, while others copy the entire design.  Each year AutoLooks outlines which products are utilizing someone else's design and gives them our CopyCat award.  Below is our list for 2024 and an outline of what each company has borrowed.
2024 model year has shown us that not just random models are being copied this year.  The same models are being copied, as the Land Rover Defender, Range Rover Velar and Lincoln Aviator have become the most copied this year.  Seems everyone has a thing for Land Rover, as they hit the CopyCat awards list with five (5) copies of their products.  Guess someone at JLR needs to stop making game changing designs.

2023 BAIC Ruixiang X3
A failed Ford for a new market
BAIC Ruixiang X3 CopyCat Award
BAIC has been around for some time and they did once build Jeep's for the Chinese market.  Today it seems that they are moving into bed with Ford, but not on a manufacturing level.  This one is on an image level as their new Ruixiang X3 is nearly a direct copy of the previous Ford Ecosport.  Funny thing is that the Ecosport was not huge success, but it
seems that BAIC thinks they can make a go at it.  Hopefully they can, cause if one of the largest auto makers on the planet cannot, then why would you think you could.
2024 BAIC Ruixiang X3
2013 Ford Ecosport

2023 NIO ES8
ES-80-ator is here for another crowd
NIO ES8 CopyCat Award
Lincoln may have been onto something when it came to the looks of the Aviator.  With many companies following its path, it seems that now even NIO is looking for some of the Aviators glory.  We wouldn't say that the Aviator is a glorious product, but it seems that the automotive world has fallen head over heals for its looks.
Today NIO is the next company to
embark on the Aviator tour, as their new ES8 borrows its profile.  Not taking on its complete shape, this new NIO still gives us that Aviator vibe with its profile image and overall premium appeal.  Guess NIO just wanted to be part of the party.
2023 Nio ES8
2020 Lincoln Aviator

2023 Peugeot 508
Been caught stealing!
Peugeot 508 CopyCat Award
Ever thought you would get caught red handed when you borrowed something which wasn't yours.  That's what happened to Peugeot, as the new 508 borrows the sleek looks of the Audi A6.
We get it that Peugeot wants to move up the premium food chain, but do you think they may have gone a bit off track with their approach?  Seems they have as
it seems that no one can pass on the ability to use someone else's profile.  Of course, maybe they could have used one a bit more aggressive, as Audi is not known for its less than cookie cutter shape.
2024 Peugeot 508
2019 Audi A6

2024 Aion Hyper HT
Falcon doors from another mother
Aion Hyper HT CopyCat Award
Doors are not the only thing Aion has borrowed from Telsa, as the overall appearance of the Hyper HT seems to flow with the Model X.  Tesla has set the standard for the EV industry, but that doesn't mean you can emulate their success with the same look.  Aion seems to think so, as the Hyper HT is a nearly exact copy of the current Model X.
With a few minor changes to a few key features along with a new face, you may feel that the Hyper HT is not a Model X.  But once those rear Falcon doors open up, you start to notice the similarities between the two.  Guess its hard not to look like the best, when you are trying to take them on.
2024 Aion Hyper HT
2022 Tesla Model X

2024 BAIC BJ40
This BJ went a bit too far
BAIC BJ40 CopyCat Award
Most of us like a good BJ and when BAIC does it, they seem to do it nearly as good as Jeep.  But this time they seem to have moved on from their Jeep affair and moved over to the Land Rover stable.  This move has created a new look for the BJ40 and one which moves BAIC away from their Jeep needs and onto a more
sophisticated Land Rover one.  Guess Jeep really wasn't that good at pleasing the BJ40 market, as this BJ has move on.
2024 BAIC BJ40
2020 Land Rover Defender

2024 Baojun Yundo EQ100
I Yundo why they chose this layout?
Baojun Yundo copyCat Award
Ever wondered what would an updated version of one of the worst production designs ever, would look like.  Well look no further as Baojun has updated the looks of Fiat Multipla for a new generation.  Sure, it doesn't have the overly bulbous upper portion, but that is because if has moved further down.
Baojun may have most confused with
the looks of the Yundo, but the overall look is similar to that of the Multipla.  But why would someone want to update the looks of on of the worst designs of all time?  That is a question only Baojun can answer.
2024 Boajun Yundo EQ100
1998 Fiat Multipla

2024 Bertone GB110
A new hand from the house
Bertone GB110 CopyCat Award
Bertone is famous for building some of the greatest concepts of all time, but that is no reason to steal from another.  Sure, Bertone may have had some influence in Lamborghini's past, but that doesn't mean you can take from their present.
Similar to how Arrinera borrowed the Lamborghini profile, Bertone is emulating their success.  Most can see how the
GB110 takes from from the Huracan, but when you shadow both images next to each other, you then see how they both look alike.  With the same profile as the Huracan, the GB110 is in need of our CopyCat Award.
2024 Bertone BG110
2015 Lamborghini Huracan

2024 Chery Tiggo 9
Move me up into the Avi-air-tor.
Chery Tiggo 9 CopyCat Award
Chery seems to be trying to move up the automotive food chain, as their new Tiggo 9 wants to play in the premium world.  This is true when it comes to its overall appeal, as it is cladding with chrome accents and smooth lines.  Too bad those profile lines were borrowed from Lincoln, as the Avaitor seems to come out when look at the Tiggo 9 in the
correct light.
Guess when you want to play in the premium field, then you might as well go after the king of the premium world.  Too bad for Chery, as Lincoln and its Aviator are not the head turners in this world, but it may be the part which Chery was meant to play.
2024 Chery Tiggo 9
2020 Lincoln Aviator

2024 Denza N7
Premium sport CUV at its best
Denza N7 CopyCat Award
Porsche has set the stage for the luxury sport CUV marketplace with both the Macan and Cayenne.  But it seems that when you set the stage, many others want to take it from you.  This is true with Denza's new N7, as it seems to borrow much from Porsche's stage.
Sport appeal is king for Porsche and it stands true for the N7 as well.  Denza has
made some major improvements over the original, as they have highly enhanced the overall sport appeal of the original Porsche design.  Too bad for them that we see how this play originally started and similar to Eterniti Motors, Denza may find that Porsche fans are steadfast with their brand.
2024 Denza N7
2019 Porsche Macan

2024 Galaxy 7
This is a Galaxy which is too close for comfort
2024 Galaxy 7 CopyCat Award
Geely is usually a market leader when it comes to both sales and design. But when it comes to cracking the luxury market, it seems that their design team has gotten lazy.
The new 7 sedan from the Galaxy brand is a new light for the luxury mark, but it seems that this new light is coming from another source in our galaxy.  Seems
Geely found that light and blocked it out for you to find it.  But our telescope is better than what they used to block out the light, as we can see how the Galaxy 7, is just an Audi e-Tron standing in a new light.
Hopefully the cap over this light comes down and Galaxy learns that you can create your own light, if you only try.
2024 Galaxy 7
2022 Audi e-Tron GT

2024 Geely X6 Pro
"Go get yourself some cheap sunglasses" - ZZ Top
Geely X6 Pro CopyCat Award
Guess Geely took ZZ Top's message to heart, as they not only went out and go themselves some cheap sunglasses, but they are marketing them as well.  Too bad for them, as we know who originally marketed those sunglasses.  Guess Dodge may have to boost their bottom line when it comes to their key light feature, as Geely wants a piece of their pie.
For this Dodge may have to instill the help of Tom Cruise to help promote their classic sunglasses.  Maybe its time for a follow up to "Risky Business", as Tom could wear Dodge's sunglasses to show the world that the original is better than the cheap version.      Hopefully they hit the streets a-runnin', as the masses may have already found out about these cheap sunglasses.
2024 Geely X6 Pro
2021 Dodge Durango

2024 Haval H5
Big and bland all rolled into one neat package
Haval H5 CopyCat Award
Bigger is not always better and when it comes to designs, the bigger the mistake of the past, the worse it may be for the future.  Haval seems to think that they can make things better for the previous generation of the Sequoia, as their new H5 seems to borrow its appeal.
Given that Sequoia was never a market leader, it seems odd that the market
leader for the Chinese market, would borrow from a past blunder.  Guess no one told Haval that Toyota doesn't always get it right and when they don't, you may not want to follow in their shoes.
2024 Haval H5
2012 Toyota Sequoia

2024 Jeep Wagoneer S
The creator is going back to the copy for ideas
Jeep Wagoneer S CopyCat Award
Jeep initially built the market for SUV's and on top of that built the original Land Rover.  But today, Jeep is going back to the company they helped start, for some design help for their future.
The Wagoneer may have built the large SUV market, but the Range Rover built the luxury SUV market.  And with that note, the Velar has helped Range Rover
build its market share.  Guess that is why Jeep is now looking at the famous brand for help with their new sport version of their large luxury SUV.
Too bad for them, as we can see how these two's profiles are the same.  Hopefully Jeep turns things around for the 2nd generation and helps set a new market standard like they once did.
2024 Jeep Wagoneer S
2023 Range Rover Velar

2024 Jetour Traveller
Defending your title is as hard as defending your copy
Jetour Traveller CopyCat Award
Jetour is usually at the top of their game when it comes to their products.  Setting new standards for the premium SUV world in the Chinese marketplace.  But for 2024, they seem that they just wanted to follow everyone else when it came to their first dedicated SUV.
Borrowing heavily from the Defender model, the Traveller not only takes on the
image of the Defender, but also adopts a similar name.  Guess this means that Land Rover is really influencing Jetour in how they design for the future, as Jetour is headed for the road most Traveled.
2024 Jetour Traveller
2022 Land Rover Defender

2024 Kuluze SUV
Baby version from another mother
Kuluze SUV CopyCat Award
Guess someone from the Toyota stable has been fooling around in China.  Maybe they forgot to use something when they entered that back street massage parlor and now we are all stuck with its offspring.
China is highly known for their copycat culture and it seems that the miniature EV market is where it all starts.  Kuluze is the latest company to enter this segment
and its first product is a downsized version of the Toyota Land Cruiser.  But this isn't just a smaller scale version made to look like the original, this is an exact copy of the original, but 1/2 the size.
Hopefully this unplanned offspring never leaves its home market, as we really don't think it would do well in the real world.
2024 Kuluze SUV
2023 Toyota Land Cruiser

2024 Polestones 01
Exact match with a play on words
Polestone 01 CopyCat Award
Not only did BAW and Rox Auto borrow heavily from Land Rover, but they decided to emulate its corporate name from an existing brand.  Polestones not Polestar are the ones who made this Defender look-a-like come to life.
Being the first makes the 01 something new to the consumer market, but not new to the automotive market.  This new
hybrid SUV is not only playing with the Defenders looks, but also they have utilized the same colours.
We guess that borrowing the design was not just enough for Polestones, they had to make sure they went all in.  Hopefully this model doesn't think it can become the next Landwind X7, as Land Rover may be more willing to fight this copy.
2024 Polestone 01
2023 Land Rover Defender 130

2024 Pavaig Defy
You can't Defy what you can't Deny
Pravaig Defy CopyCat Award
Deny it, as you may have seen this product before.  Pavaig hopes you haven't, as their Defy product seems to be playing with the notion that its a new product for the Indian marketplace.  Too bad for them as this image has already been done before, with Range Rover setting its image onto the market back in 2017.
Guess no one told the designers at Pravaig that this has all been done before and that maybe they should in another direction.  We can all see what the Defy is trying to be, as it is not defying anything but itself.
2024 Pavaig Defy
2018 Range Rover Velar

2024 Ramsmobile RM-X2
Big and in charge for another run
Ramsmobile RM-X2 CopyCat Award
AM General set the standard when it came to military inspired products for the road.  Sure, the original Humvee was only built for a military purpose in mind, but that didn't stop the H1 from taking over commercial sales.
Although its sales were never record breaking, its design set a new standard for off road power.  Today, again it seems that
someone else wants a piece of that niche pie carved out by AM General over 30 years ago.  We can all see how the RM-X2 is a direct copy of the original H1, but Ramsmobile has done something which Hummer never did.  Give it two-doors.
2024 Ramsmobile RM-X2
1996 Hummer H1

2024 Subaru Impreza Sport
Same sport from another country
Subaru Impreza Sport CopyCat Award
Similar to Baseball in Japan, the new Impreza Sport is nothing more than the same thing which Sweden once hade.  Subaru has given the Impreza, not only a similar appearance as the previous V60, but the same colour which was used by Polestar back when it was a sports brand.
Guess no one told Subaru to look at how this game was played on the other
side of the world, as they may have made some improvements over the original.  Seems they only wanted to go after the appeal of the original.
2024 Subaru Impreza Sport
2017 Volvo V60 Polestar

2024 Tank 700
A tank of tank design
Tank 700 CopyCat Award
If you want to create a great tank, you must first start with the basics.  Make it big and heavy, but also versatile.  This is what Tank has done for their new 700 product, but along with that they have added in a few key touches from original SUV tank.
For 2024, Tank is trying to move up the automotive food chain and its new 700 model is trying to be the one to get it
there.  Too bad it plays too heavily with the Mercedes image when it comes to key features and colours.  Guess this Tank may have to settle for entry level, rather than actual luxury.
2024 Tank 700
2023 Mercedes-Benz G-Class

2024 Toyota Century SUV
Not this century Toyota
Toyota Century SUV CopyCat Award
The Century name sits atop the Toyota food chain and with it comes big shoes to fill.  We have taken a guess that someone couldn't make shoes that big and had to settle for ones they found on 5th Ave.
Toyota is serious about the build quality of the Century SUV being on par with its looks and that is a good thing.  Too bad that its looks are heavily borrowed from
the segment its trying to break into.
Similar to Aurus Motors, Toyota has borrowed heavily from Rolls Royce for its new Premiere luxury SUV.  They have not only given the Century the image of the Rolls, but the build quality, profile and luxury paint scheme.
This is not what we have come to expect from Toyota and hope that the next generation moves away from its Rolls looks.
2024 Toyota Century SUV
2019 Rolls Royce Cullinan

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander XL
How grand it is to be in love with you!
Toyota Grand Highlander XL CopyCat Award
Ah, to be in love again would be a great thing for many of us.  But when that love crosses the boundary between stalking and emulating, then we have to move away from it.  Seems that Toyota is headed down a path it should have stayed away from, as the new Grand Highlander seems to be stalking the Wagoneer.
Unlike the base Highlander, the Grand
Highlander seems to play with the idea of blending a RAV 4 with a Wagoneer.  Sure, there is a market for an extended CUV from Toyota, but when its image looks like someone added a RAV front to a Wagoneer, then you may have to rethink your approach.  Let's hope Toyota makes the next generation more of a Highlander and less of a Wagoneer.
2024 Toyota Grand Highlander XL
2022 Jeep Wagoneer

2024 Wey Gaoshan
That's going Wey too far
Wey Gaoshan CopyCat Award
Wey may be new to the van game, but its plan of attack is nothing new.  Borrowing heavily from Hongqi, the new Goashan luxury minivan is nothing new to the market.  From its waterfall grille to the indented handles, every aspect of the Gaoshan has been taken from the competition.   Oddly enough Wey is not even part of the same corporate chain
which Hongqi comes from.  Guess even in China companies will copy each other in the hopes of gaining the same sales.
2024 Wey Gaoshan
2023 Hongqi Q8

2024 Wey Lanshan
Safety plays a key role here
Wey Lanshan CopyCat Award
Wey is heading into a few new markets with the release of its first minivan, but it seems that it wants to head into something a bit more safer.  Borrowing key aspects from the safety CUV, Wey has played heavily on the Volvo XC90 for its new Lanshan CUV.
Although not being a direct copy of the XC, the Lanshan does play heavily onto
the image which Volvo has created.
2024 Wey Lanshan
2020 Volvo XC90
