And the 2024 Rusty Award Goes to........

Rusty Awards - AutoLooks
Re-releasing a product is one thing, but when you do it on an even cheaper level years later, that is a recipe disaster.  This years winner of our famous Rusty Award, has brought back a previous rusty list contender, but with one added twist.  This time its done at the bottom end of the price chart.
Entry level products always seem to end up on our list and this year was no
different than any other.  With a multitude of bottom end products, 2024 is no different except for one thing.  This year there overall average has moved up.

2024 did see a rise in the number for bottom end products.  But with an overall increase of nearly 100 cars to this years ratings list, it was a guarantee that things would increase overall.  And it was with both the top and bottom of the list experiencing increases.

The bottom of the barrel didn't change much this year with a lot of hatchbacks, hybrids and vans making it onto this years list.  Our one oddity came from the aftermarket world, where we had one (1) product manage to miss the mark on making things look better.  Guess Mugen needs to sharpen their pencils a bit, but when you world with toaster you have expect some decrease in overall appeal.

CopyCats seem to have left the bottom end of the world, as this years list did not include any at all.  We did have a few Cookie Award winners, with out runner-up taking home both awards, as they seem to have missed the mark completely.  There was one Character Award handed out to the bottom end, as one vehicle did portray their name correctly.

Seems that our changeover to the alternative fuel world is starting to pay off, as even the new comers to the game are playing with better looking products.  All we have to do now is get through to the economy manufactures, as they still seem to be hard set on building inexcusably poor designs.  But maybe when they see their sales start to drop when the better looking alternatives move in, they might reconsider there choice.

Now that the larger corporations are moving into the growing entry level market, we might start to see some better products all around.  This could mean that emerging markets may not be the dumping ground for poor designs it once was.  Although it could still be the last haven for Rusty Award winners, as affordability always trumps design in the end.

Overall the year did look a bit better, with less of the pure ugly products we have seen in the past and with an overall increase of 0.96% over 2023, it seems that even the bottom end is getting better looking.  This could mean that AutoLooks is finally making its mark on the automotive design world.

2024 AUTOLOOKS RUSTY AWARD WINNER!
This years winner is fitting of their title win, as they made a poor design look even worse than it was a decade ago.  Wallys managed to make a previous Peugeot design fall even further down the food chain, as the 719 sedan adds touches of poor planning to an already poor car.  Say hello to this years overall winner of the AutoLooks Rusty Award, the 2024 Wallys 719 sedan.

    About

AutoLooks "RATED" is where we rate and review vehicles from around the world from every segment of the automotive industry.  Our 1,215 point system is based on Four (4) key areas of automotive design.
AutoLooks rates the Front End, Rear End, Side and Overall Appeal of each and every new vehicle from around the world.
If they rate above 75%, they receive our
    A+ AWARD for design excellence.
If our rating system turns up a score below 45%, then that model will receive our RUSTY AWARD of design failure.
And don't think of borrowing to many design features from another company, or you will wind up taking home our COPYCAT AWARD.  This award outlines which model they are borrowing from and how close they are to the original
At the end of each year, AutoLooks puts together all of the their information into one easy to read article which outlines the best, worst, lost and new products from each year.
So join us on our journey of automotive criticism and take a look on our RATED pages to see how well each company, segment and model fair against their rivals.
