2018 A+ Awards

AND THE 2019 A+ AWARD WINNER IS......

2018 A+ Awards
2018 was a year about mediocrity.  It showed us that companies have given up caring about their designs and are now only focusing on new technology.  Sure in the future technology will win, but there will be a point when people again will ask for a better looking product.  And that is where we come in.

This year marks the year in which almost half of our winners were from the same company.  Sure we also have a world winner and a car from someone who is always on our list.  But no, this year was the year, in which it was all about Aston Martin.  They made it onto our list 4 times this year.  Of course two of those are a draw for 8th place, but who cares.

Well we care a whole lot about what the new models look like and to us looks are everything.  Sure that may make us seem vain, but really who wants to look at an Aztec when they could look at an Aventador.

Rated: 2018 BMW 4-Series Grand Coupe

For 2018 it seemed that everyone has lost there way.  Sure there were a few models which broke the mould, but most vehicles this year fell into the simple and bland appeal category.  This is highly shown in our roundup of the year and how we managed to drop nearly 2% points on average design compared to last year.

But at the top of this drop a few models managed to break through that mould and become truly desirable vehicles.  And for this we congratulate them and award them for their design direction.

Rated: 2018 DS7 Crossback

As we said before Aston Martin has taken home 4 awards this year, of course they didn't the "2018 A+ Award", that went to a winner more deserving.

For a 2nd time in a row Apollo Automobil Ltd., has claimed victory over everyone else and has take home the A+ award for 2018.  This is the first time anyone has ever claimed the prize twice in a row and we look forward to seeing if Apollo can go for a third in 2019.

Next to Apollo claiming their 2nd win and Aston Martin cleaning house, we did see a few inspiring new models which will change the world.  Sure one of them already is winner on multiple continents for both design and all around greatness.  For that we have to say to
Kia, "Thank You" for giving us the Stinger.  Sure the original sports coupe which carried this name would have been great, but we will live with the awe inspiring Stinger Sedan.  Lets hope they give us a follow up coupe model to go along with this great sedan, or even a V8.

Next to the Stinger there were only two other great new models to enter our arena this year.  That would have to be the Wrangler based Rezvani Tank and the World conquering Civic Type R.

Sure we already had the go anywhere Jeep Wrangler, but what happens when you rethink this model as a war torn, covering, mountain conquering beast of a Utility Vehicle.  Well you get the Tank.  The Tank is what no one at Jeep ever wanted to do or that place they didn't want to go to.  Sure it still has some odd features, but that's what makes it great.

Rated: 2018 Lucid Motors Air

Next to this the new Civic Type R looks like a toy.  But what are toys to young girls and boys.  They're the most desired things they want.  And that is what the new Civic Type R is.  It's that car we never got in the N.A. and now we get to have it.  Just like the Skyline, but even better.  And why do we say better, because it is what we really wanted, not what they thought we wanted.  Oh and the price is more reasonable than Godzilla's.

So for 2018 we saw how the market can take a nose dive to the shallow end.  Let's hope that the companies of the world will swim towards the deep end in 2019

    About

AutoLooks "RATED" is where we rate and review vehicles from around the world from every segment of the automotive industry.  Our 1,215 point system is based on Four (4) key areas of automotive design.
AutoLooks rates the Front End, Rear End, Side and Overall Appeal of each and every new vehicle from around the world.
If they rate above 75%, they receive our
    A+ AWARD for design excellence.
If our rating system turns up a score below 45%, then that model will receive our RUSTY AWARD of design failure.
And don't think of borrowing to many design features from another company, or you will wind up taking home our COPYCAT AWARD.  This award outlines which model they are borrowing from and how close they are to the original
At the end of each year, AutoLooks puts together all of the their information into one easy to read article which outlines the best, worst, lost and new products from each year.
So join us on our journey of automotive criticism and take a look on our RATED pages to see how well each company, segment and model fair against their rivals.
