Nio may be relatively new to the world of automobiles, but it has managed to carve out its own powerful image.   Simple hard edges mixed with clean lines help give NIO their own product image.  And like Audi and BMW, Nio products are very distinctive.  This is great for a startup, as you want to ensure your product does not fall into crowd.

Podcast: Rise of the alternative Vehicle

As with the rest of the product range, the all new EC6 blends well with the rest of NIO's lineup.  Clean lines and hard edges help take the EC6 to the top of the ratings chart as it breaks through the mold to become a game changer.  With its sport appeal and soft road looks, the EC6 is blending the best of both worlds for its urban customer.

From front to rear the EC6 hits its mark for its segment well.  The clean flowing lines help it create its coupe profile, which the use of plastic cladding still retains a soft road image.  There were a few areas where NIO will have to work over for their mid-cycle refresh.  An oversized front bumper will work when pushing through traffic, but it does not work with this front end.  Increasing the size of the lower air duct, while reducing the size of the front bumper will greatly help this front end become the best in its class.

Rated: 2021 ford Mustang Mach-E

Overall the EC6 does have what it takes to beat its rivals.  But only when it makes a few minor tweaks to its design can it become the leader of its segment.
