Supra and NASCAR Rise Again!

NASCAR set to revive the good old days.

    Well it's nice to see that now all three manufactures in the NASCAR series will be using sports cars again.  Sure it would be better if the Challenger was still in the series (it is in Canada), but really nothing could be better than seeing Camaro's, Mustang's and Supra's chasing after each other.  

​    This kind of reminds of us of the good old days.  You know back when the manufactures raced cars from the street.  Well these may not be from the street, but they're at least not altered sedans which have been made into desirable coupes that you can't get from the dealer.  Those days seem to be behind us, and we are all glad of it as we really wanted to drive a Fusion, Charger, Camry and SS coupe.  Too bad only one of those models had a coupe model, but it was gone before entering the series.

    We can think back to a time when you were able to go out and purchase any of the cars that flew around Daytona, so that you too could live out your own racing dream.  That was a long time ago as the last of the of the actual road worthy NASCAR cars left the track just before the time of the "Days of Thunder" movie.  But one company did manage to hold onto that dream up until the early 00's.  Chevrolet did manage to hold onto the Monte Carlo up until the mid-00's when it too was finally replaced by a coupe version of the Impala.  Too bad as this was the last example of the original theory behind the NASCAR dream.  Meaning that back in the day manufactures had to produce a certain number of road worthy models to qualify for the series.  Hence the reason why we have Superbirds and Torino Talladegas running around.  Of course, were not complaining about those models as they were two of the sports best and fastest cars to date.

     So now with the introduction of the Supra, Camaro and Mustang, we again can start dreaming of being a NASCAR driver ourselves.  Sure, we don't condone doing it on city streets, but rather you dream big at the track.  We all get that urge to race, and now again NASCAR wants to make those dreams come true.   And like F1 engine manufacturers do for their respected companies, NASCAR will be giving their respected manufacturers that added push at the dealer lots.  And let's hope this helps bring back both the sport and a new age of aftermarket shops which want to build their own NASCAR dream models.

     So here is to NASCAR and the dream that has been brought back to life by a Japanese company.  Here's to Toyota and the new Supra as we wish you and all the others the best of luck next season.  And let's hope that FCA gets their head out of there ass and bring back the Challenger to the series as well.
