2018 Equus Throwback
Back in 2015 when we first heard about Equus, they showed us how they could make a 68 Mustang Fastback even better. Sure we all wish they would redo the Bullitt chase scene with the Bass 770, but let's face it the Charger today is nothing like it was back then. For 2019 Equus wants to the up the ante on their coachbuilding skills and take another crack at the game. And this time they are doing it with Corvette platform. Sure the Vette is one of those cars that looks great on its own, but we also thought that about the 68 Mustang Fastback. Equus has kept most of the original lines from the previous generation Vette, but they went that next step and added a few new ones. Along the side you can really notice the new side gille brake duct crease. Sure the chrome accents are bit too much but the sleek lines do work with the design. They could have done away with the diffuser lines, but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Up front the new rally inspired lamps are a bit overboard as we think that most of its consumers won't be taking this out in heavy snow or off road. They could be good for fog in New York City, but really I think you won't be moving fast enough to require them. Equus could have spent a bit more time on the front grille as well as the cheap chrome slits bring down the luxury appeal of this ride. A standard black grille with either chrome dots or a chrome accent would have done a better job. Out back we have no quarrels with this ride as it seems that there is a good balance between colour, black gloss and chrome. Along with this Equus has kept the allure of the Corvette lights and has slightly increased the size of the exhaust ports. Sure Larger may not always be better, but in this case it works. But next to the exhaust is the one area which we do have to say needs to be improved. Adding a rear diffuser instead of simple slots would make this look way more presentable. These slits to add a piece of simplicity to the rear and if we know Equus, simplicity is not their game. We were glad to hear from Equus again and are glad to see a new product. We just hope that next time they will go after the Charger and make it great once again. Everett J. AutoLooks.net, #AutoLooks, @AutoLooks
