podcast Episode: 0077
life and times of dacia

Dacia Duster
Known as the budget brand from Renault, Dacia is more than just that.  Their history is littered with bad news, but in the end, it all worked out.  Come with us as we take a look at this little brand, who proved to be more than meets the eye.  It's the brand we all love and now its time to love it some more.

Dacia is one of those little known of brands, but its background shows that it has more to offer than just economy made products for Renault.

With some help from their soon to be parent owner, Dacia started out life similar to their corporate sibling Lada.  They utilized another companies product to help get their feet off the ground.  But their start was not with the product they originally wanted.  Sure, they received the product they wanted later on, but their start was initially rocky.

Through the 70's they expanded their product offering, but were still not up to the standards of any other major auto maker.  That would soon change, when a change to their government came into play.  This change would forever change the face of Dacia and would help push this little company into the future.

On their own with major government backing, Dacia was off to the races.  But this race would soon prove to be too enticing for their original corporate partner.  And soon enough Renault would receive approval from the Romanian Government to take over Dacia.  But, this was not all in vain, as Renault would soon give them the lifeline they required.

Over their life Dacia has been through a lot, but with a little help from their friends they have paved the way for change within the economy marks.   Dacia has a bright future in front of them and along with their corporate sibling, Lada, they are poised to set the stage for future development at the bottom end of the Renault Groupe.
