Chrysler's New Niche

Episode: 0066
Aftermarket Minivans are a thing

Picture
Chrysler has unlocked a few more niche markets within the Van segment.  Can this help improve their market share and will the competition let this go on for long?  Only time will tell.  Well, that and the AutoLooks.net Podcast.

Vans were big money back in the 70's and up until the rise of the SUV/CUV marketplace, it was one of the most profitable markets around.  Today this market has shrunk drastically, but one (1) company has held on strong.  Now that company is again branching out to see how much more of this once great marketplace can be exploited before its too late.

Seems today that Chrysler is not holding back when it comes to its bread and butter vehicle the Pacifica.  This now great model is happily expanding as it takes on the remaining world of the minivans.  With the loss of its brother, the Caravan, the Pacifica now has to go it alone, with only its previous generation filling in the bottom end of the pricing chain.

But with the loss of the Caravan, the Pacifica now has to fill in the sport appeal market.  This has come true for both its I.C.E. and hybrid powertrains, as Chrysler seems to be on a segment filling binge.  Now with Dodge out of the way Chrysler can focus on its bottom end, premium, sport and even AWD categories for the Pacifica lineup.

With less markets to hit, the Pacifica seems to be on a roll.  And now with the backing of PSA, maybe we can expect to see a Cross-Trek, high performance or even a high end version of the new Pacifica.  Its lineup could use more, as its potential is sitting right in front of us.
