Podcast Episode: 0058
What is the differance between a Hypercar and a Supercar?

Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta
Hypercars are blowing up on the scene, but most of us still don't know what they are truly are.  Are they ultra fast supercars or are they something else entirely.  AutoLooks is here to help, as we break out the definition of what a true hypercar really is and how it came to be.

Everett J.
Hypercars are more than just a super fast supercar as most would make them out to be.  A true hypercar has more meaning to the automotive sector than just speed alone.  They embody the soul of where the automotive industry is headed and what is about to become.

The hypercar market came to be in the early part of the 21st century, as Tesla and Toyota made progress into the alternative fuel segments.  With interest in electric, fuel cell and hybrid technology, these and many more companies, started to show us a world outside of our regular petroleum automotive world.

If we could make a car go over 230mph utilizing a gasoline engine, than what could we do if we added an electric drive system to both increase power and make the vehicle more efficient?   This was the question that was soon answered by McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche.  And with that answer came a whole new segment.

Hypercars are more than just a superfast supercar, they are the next generation of supercar.  Utilizing hybrid and alternative fuel power systems, these supercars of the future are setting a new benchmark for both horsepower and speed.

In the end a true hypercar is not just a superfast vehicle that goes over 250mph, but an alternative power source supercar.  The Hybrid-Supercars (hypercars) of the future are going to be much different than our supercars of today.
