twas the night before cars-mas

AutoLooks Christmas
Twas the night before Cars-Mas and all through my Garage
Not an engine was running, not even from my Countach
My tools were hung on my workbench with care,
In hopes that St. Auto, soon would be there.
My vehicles were all nestled snug under their covers
While envisioning some new back roads to discover
Slowly and cautiously I crept to my bedroom door
To lay my head down for a good winters snore

When out on the street there arouse such a sound
I leapt from my bed with one single bound
Away to my window I moved like a skyline
To see what’s the matter and if everything was fine

Some drift marks were spotted on the new fallen snow
That would’ve been better to see from below
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a Hennessey Velociraptor and a man with a beard

He’s got mad skills as he missed hitting my grotto
I knew right away it must be St. Auto
Moving as fast as a Demon his truck came
As he called out to each cylinder by name

Now PUSHER! Now, Plunger! Now Spark-plug and Cast Steel!
On, Turbo, On Power, On Octane and That Annoying Squeal!
To the edge of the yard! To the edge of that wall!
Now vent away, vent away, vent away all

As they tore up my backyard like an uncontrolled party
They then jumped into the air like good old Doc and Marty
To the top of the house, oh how they flew
With a box full of parts and St. Auto too

And then I heard the bass drop as loud as hoof
As the each all terrain tire landed on my roof.
Startled was I, as I began to turn around
Down the chimney he came, with one single bound

He was dressed in his best pair of coveralls, from his head to his foot
But unfortunately my chimney had covered him with soot,
A bundle of parts he flung onto his back
As he went right to work and began to un-pack

His eyes how they twinkled, like a freshly installed windshield
His cheeks and his nose were all cracked and peeled
He must have been hard at work out in the snow
As his beard was so white, that it started to glow

He was short in stature, but not overly small
I tripped to get closer, so I began to crawl
He had a broad face, which was all covered in grease
And held a bag which always had the right piece

The stump of a pencil which he held in his teeth
Was so worn out from work, he just left it in my wreath
A list which he came with now needed to be marked off
As he grabbed a new pencil, from my random work trough

He went right to work as most private mechanics do
He cracked out his bag and some gorilla glue
He fixed what needed fixing and then went over and above
My vehicle was fixed now and ran as smooth as a dove

He spoke not a word as he worked in my shop
As he fixed everything, as if he had not time to stop
With a wink of his eye and a tap to his nose
His job was now finished, it was time to close

He sprang to his truck and they gave a whistle
He soon took off like a nitrous can missile
As I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight
Merry drifting to all and to all a good night!

Everett J.
