Death's at the doorstep of the Mustang again.... Mustang. No we are here to talk about the introduction of an all new Mustang counterpart. Now with the loss of the Falcon from down under and the quick death of the sedan segment within Ford, it just seems obvious that the lone Mustang platform could be on the chopping block. As it is the only model within the Ford stable that rides on its own dedicated platform, the Mustang could be a hard sell for future board members. But that could all change when a new Ford project gets off the ground, which in turn will not only save the current Mustang, but could save the future of the is model. With only a few variations and no sibling in sight there isn’t much more than the brute force of this great pony car to keep it alive today. But with the addition of a fun loving sibling, the Mustang could live on for future generations to enjoy. And hey it’s not the first time it’s been done as the Falcon kept the platform alive and well when all hope was lost for this once great model. But with a decreasing sports car market and a changeover to autonomous driving, the Mustang is really one of those loss leader vehicles which is only still around to keep their regular customers happy. Once that generation of the market disappears and the millennials take over, the Mustang we fear, may not have a place in the world. So that could be why Ford is working on an electric crossover counterpart built off of a new future Mustang platform. This could be what saves this model for the future and we all know where the crossover market is headed. Along with that this could be the money making sibling that this model needs to stay alive, king of like the Falcon did for it in the past. They could also make sure that their money making sibling is in a technological market that will be on the growth end of things. Let’s say the electric crossover utility vehicle market, complete with full autonomous capabilities. Oh wait, that is what they are doing. And their doing it with a kick back to a Mustang from the past. Say hello to the new “Mach E” project from Ford. A new model which will share its platform with the next generation Mustang and will help the Mustang live on for future generations to enjoy. Sure it may not be the Falcon we remember, but you can’t win with a sedan these days, even if they are the larger siblings to the coupe segment. And as the sedan market is dying and Ford is pulling the plug on sedans, it seemed fitting to make the Mustang brother a CUV. Add to that some autonomous tech and a fully electric drivetrain and you have a winning combination for a future segment leader. With the Mustang as it’s brother the new Mach E shall be a true winner in the marketplace as it has one thing that Tesla can’t create. History. And with that long line of great historical models from the Mustang along with a cult following, the new Mach E is sure to win over both future and present generations. And if they add in a few of the original Mach 1’s paint schemes, we could be looking at a true Mustang for the family. But let’s just hope it’s not a marriage or horror, being a child spawned by a combination of Mustang and Explorer. That could be a scary thing. So let’s hope they do it right and make it more of a lifted quad-cab inspired Mustang counterpart. Sort of like the marriage of the Cayenne and the Huracan, which created the amazing offspring which we all know as the Urus. So here’s to the Mustang and a future that doesn’t look so bleak.
