Why do EV's only have one source of Power?

    Putting all of your eggs into one basket is odd, but EV's are the best ones at doing this.  Without a backup or alternative power source for minor operations, the main power source is all that it has.  AutoLooks takes a look at how EV companies could utilize some extra space and an idea from the combustion world, to help them run more efficiently.

    Combustion vehicles have one, so why don't EV's?  Having an alternative power source to power all the basic systems, combustion vehicles are able to fully utilize their main power source for mobility.  This is something which the EV marketplace still has not applied, as their entire system operates off of one main power source.  But, how far can we go before it becomes too much for one system to handle?

    With the addition of Lidar systems, we are now seeing how far one power source is willing to go.  Utilizing more power than the basic operating systems, the Lidar system draws and extensive amount of power which can reduce the overall distance traveled by the EV.  So, why don't electric vehicles take a note from the combustion world and supply a secondary system into the mix.

    A battery and alternator work together to bring you power for all of your basic needs.  Providing help for your operating, heating, navigation and sound systems, this alternative power source leaves the combustion system alone to do its own job.  This seems like a smart way to keep your mobility system operating at peak performance, so why hasn't the EV marketplace followed suit?

    This is a question which AutoLooks will take a look at on this podcast, as we take a look at how the EV world could help maximize their power source with an alternative power source.  What could be better than a an extra battery used to power the basic operations while we leave the mobility work to the main battery pack.
